Organised by Rapha, as a rally not a race, on June 15, 2021, a group of riders will embark on the inaugural Rapha Pennine Rally – a five-day, unsupported 500km bikepacking adventure from Edinburgh to Manchester.
Rapha notes… ‘It’s not a race, but following the tradition of ultra distance events, each rider will have a spot tracker and you will be able to follow each individual or pair in real time as they travel across the most breath-taking – yet challenging – off-road terrain in the UK.’
‘Transcontinental winner Emily Chappell will be riding, along with other experienced riders in the ultra distance and gravel scene. Out of the field of 74 riders, 50% are male and 50% are female, the first time a UK event of this kind has achieved gender parity (that we know of).’
Fans will be able to view the route and follow the riders’ progress online. Emily Chappell and others will be posting daily video diaries on the @rapha_uk Instagram page.
Rapha adds that it is also working to reduce the carbon emissions of its events going forward, and has partnered up with Jaguar, which is providing a fully electric I-PACE as an event support vehicle.
