Group-set go: Shimano extends tie up with British Cycling

Shimano, the world’s leading manufacturer of bicycle components, has become the Exclusive Official Group-Set Supplier to the Great Britain Cycling Team and British Cycling. This latest deal formalises a long-standing relationship, and will continue to see the cycling brand support the national team and 147,000 British Cycling members.

British Cycling’s Performance Director, Stephen Park, said “When you think of cycling, you think ‘Shimano’. The brand is arguably one of the most iconic names in the sport and have been at the forefront of component design for 100 years.

“We have been using Shimano group-sets and components for years and it is fantastic to continue to formalise the partnership. As a leading protagonist in the global cycling industry, I’ve no doubt that our link-up with Shimano will benefit the Great Britain Cycling Team and British Cycling members, who will receive exclusive benefits themselves.”

Dominic Langan, CEO at Madison, the UK and Ireland distributor of Shimano, said “We have supported British Cycling with Shimano components for many years now, so we are delighted to continue our partnership. Both at an elite and grass roots level, we are proud to support British Cycling with Shimano with our joint ambition to get more people cycling.”

The partnership marks the third deal announced in as many weeks for British Cycling amongst the Madison stable of brands to support the development of the Great Britain Cycling Team and British Cycling.

‘Continuing a successful relationship between the national governing body for cycling and the UK’s leading distributor of cycle parts and accessories first established over a decade ago, in addition to the Shimano deal, Lazer is now Exclusive Official Helmet Supplier to the Great Britain Cycling Team and to British Cycling; and Freewheel has become Non-exclusive Official Supplier to the Great Britain Cycling Team and to British Cycling.’

Stephen Park added “The additional support which British Cycling will receive through Shimano, Lazer and Freewheel, which are well-loved, trailblazing cycling brands that have passion, know-how and innovation at their core, highlights our ongoing commitment to supporting both the Great Britain Cycling Team and our members.”
