This year’s IRONMAN European Championships were set across two countries – as IRONMAN Finland Kuopio-Tahko set the stage for Europe’s top professional women on August 14, 2021 and Mainova IRONMAN European Championship Frankfurt crowned the top pro men on August 15, 2021.
Laura Philipp (GER) won the women’s pro IRONMAN European Championship in Kuopio-Tahko, Finland, setting the inaugural event’s first course record with a time of 08:38:29. Jocelyn McCauley (USA) and Imogen Simmonds (CHE) completed the podium in second and third places respectively, also qualifying for the 2021 IRONMAN World Championship.
In addition to the pro field in Finland, the event saw approximately 1000 international athletes take part, of which 50% were competing in their first full distance IRONMAN event.
After a forced break in 2020, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, over 1,500 professional and age group athletes celebrated the 19th edition of the Mainova IRONMAN European Championship Frankfurt in Germany. The event saw Patrik Nilsson (SWE) crowned IRONMAN European Champion, finishing in a time of 07:59:21. Kristian Hogenhaug (DNK) and David McNamee (GBR) secured second and third place, respectively.
