Australian brands MAAP and P.A.M. have got together to introduce the first instalment of an ongoing collaboration. According to the companies… this ‘combines P.A.M.’s free-wheeling aesthetic and signature psy-activated graphic language with MAAP’s technical apparel.’
An exclusive, free, 44pp full colour zine will also be available from MAAP & P.A.M. stores, illustrating the side of cycling engaged by the project.
Breaking through the noise of art and culture in Melbourne in the early 2000s, brands such as Schwipe and Perks and Mini (P.A.M.) were took on a blurring of the boundaries between fashion and streetwear.
Following a chance encounter between company founders – MAAP’s Creative Director Misha Glisovic, formerly from Schwipe, and Misha Hollenbach and Shauan Toohey of P.A.M. – a connection formed.
In 2020 upon returning to Melbourne after five years abroad in France, Hollenbach and Toohey of P.A.M. connected with MAAP in the hope of designing a team kit for a cycling crew they’d put together during lockdown.
A release from the two companies added… ‘It was this serendipitous email exchange between Misha and Misha, which is as confusing as it sounds, that kick-started this organic collaboration and the rest they say is history.’
“It was a very organic moment,” said Misha Hollenbach, P.A.M. Co-Founder. “It was very natural and easy, and very exciting at the same time. It’s affirming when things like that happen. No planning, and a very natural synergy emerging was a perfect place to start.”
Misha Glisovic, MAAP’s Creative Director, added “We wanted to bring a different perspective to cycling. As the sport’s evolved and as it’s growing, for us it’s about showing people there is an option and just providing more people access to the sport.
“To show them that it is more inclusive. And with a background in apparel and streetwear design, I always wanted to get MAAP even closer to what we wear off the bike and merge those two worlds together. Projects like this are bringing it even closer to home.”
