ASD Fausto Coppi, which organizes the international cycling granfondo La Fausto Coppi in Cuneo (North West Italy), has announced that the event will not be organized in 2022.
“New professional commitments are forcing us to take a break in 2022,” said Davide Lauro and Emma Mana, President and Vice-President of ASD Fausto Coppi. “Otherwise, we would not be able to maintain the high organizational standards to which the many fans of La Fausto Coppi are accustomed to. Our commitment to the event has always been on a voluntary basis.”
The ASD Fausto Coppi team adds that it has invested a lot in the event, ‘both in terms of time and people’ (every year there are over 100 volunteers who collaborate with the event).
Moreover, since 2014, more than €100,000 has been earmarked for the recovery and preservation of the high-altitude routes of La Fausto Coppi. Funds have been employed to fix stretches of the routes’ asphalt, to retain walls and for the road cleaning.
“This is not a farewell,” the organisers said. “It is just a moment of pause for an event to which we are extremely attached.”
The cycling marathon takes place on alpine roads, and has run for 33 years, attracting around 6,000 riders per year from all over the world. The event is closely linked to Cuneo and the nearby mountains.
