Pirelli is working on a new line of Scorpion MTB tyres that is specifically dedicated to the gravity racing world.
The company cites a long process of research and prototyping, which began two years ago and is now in the final stage of development. To develop the new tyre offering Pirelli engineers involved the French downhill MTB luminary, Fabien Barel.
The three-time downhill world champion and seven-time French DH champion has considerable experience in the gravity discipline as well as technical expertise.
The new Scorpion tyres dedicated to the gravity racing world are now at the prototype level. The new tyre can be found on the MTBs of some athletes and teams, who will be racing them in the EWS and World Cup DH circuits.
“Pirelli’s involvement in the world of MTB gravity racing is a great opportunity for everyone,” said French champion Fabien Barel. “There’s already a solid line of Pirelli mountain bike tyres on the market.
“My job is to help complete it with models dedicated to racing, which will hopefully lead to the successes that the company has already achieved in many other sports. The clear objective of these new tyres is to reach the top of the podium.”
