One of the associated events accompanying IRONMAN Gdynia in Poland this year will be the competition for medals at the Polish Aquathlon Championships. On August 6, 2021, many of country’s best young athletes will be chasing a podium spot.
Depending on the age category, the following distances are provided:
- 0.2 km swimming and 1 km run (Youth 11-12 years old)
- 0.4 km – 2 km (Youth 13-14 years)
- 0.6 km – 3 km (Junior 15-17 years)
- 0.8 km – 5 km (Junior 18-19 years)
The winners of all the above categories will win the Polish Aquathlon Championship titles awarded by the Polish Triathlon Association. Additionally, younger children, e.g., 9-10 years old, for whom 0.1 km of swimming and 0.5 km of running have been prepared, will also be able to compete.
“We are glad that the Polish Aquathlon Championships will be held in such a beautiful place,” said Paweł Jarski, President of the Polish Triathlon Association. “Gdynia has been promoting triathlon in our country for years, and this year we will have the opportunity to decorate the best competitors in this event with medals.
“Aquathlon is close to the triathlon, it is particularly important due to the possibility of attracting people to our discipline, e.g. swimming or athletics. Thanks to this location and, as every year, excellent organization, I am convinced that the competitors, apart from their hearts left on the route, will have unforgettable memories for many years to come.”
An aquathon for children and young people has been accompanying the IRONMAN Gdynia competition for a number of years. However, in 2021, for the first time, it will rank as the Polish Championship.
“It will be a real triathlon celebration,” said Michał Drelich, Director of IRONMAN Gdynia. “For the first time in Poland, the full-distance IRONMAN competition will be held, and right before it we will be able to admire the struggles of children and youth fighting for the medals of the Polish Aquathlon Championships. We hope that in the future these young triathlon students will develop their passion for sports.”
The Polish Aquathlon Championships are scheduled for August 6, 2021 in Gdynia. Registration for the competition will start in early March.
