RGT Cycling introduces ‘Leuven City, Flanders’ enhanced virtual road

RGT Cycling, the free to use virtual cycling platform, in partnership with Deloitte and the City of Leuven, has unveiled its latest road – Leuven City, Flanders.

RGT noted that… ‘Developers utilised cutting edge methods to create the most detailed course to date, allowing cycling fans worldwide to experience riding the same route their cycling ‘heroes’ will be competing on this week.’

‘With its incredibly rich cycling heritage, Flanders is one of the most iconic places to ride a bike in the world. RGT’s De Ronde road, which was built in partnership with the Tour of Flanders organisers Flanders Classics, has been a firm favourite of users of the platform since it launched back in April.

So it made sense to expand the Belgian virtual offering by introducing a new course tracing a similar route to some of the world’s biggest and best loved bike races.’

Leuven City, Flanders is a 15.4km virtual road incorporating the climbs of Keizersberg, Decouxlaan, Wijnpers and Sint-Antoniusberg on a ‘feature-packed’ circuit of the historic city. The course has 136m elevation and a finish line on Geldenaaksevest by the Sint-Antoniusberg church.

‘Leuven in Flanders is RGT Cycling’s most detailed road simulation to date, utilising an innovative new mapping method which more accurately replicates real world roads, parcours and buildings. RGT developers have gone so far as to painstakingly recreate many of Leuven’s best known buildings in even greater detail to further extend the immersion and ensure riders get the full Flanders cycling experience.’

In addition to the other 2,500 buildings on the map, 10 landmarks including the City Hall of Leuven, the historic Leuven City Library, Sint Pieters Church and even the old Stella Artois brewery have been accurately built into the course with ‘unrivalled’ detail, replicating their real world locations and appearances.

“We’re incredibly excited to finally open our latest road, Leuven City, Flanders,” says RGT Cycling’s Head of Brand and Marketing James Vickers.

“This has been a long time in the making, with our team of highly talented developers pushing the boundaries of what was previously possible, all in the name of providing the most captivating indoor cycling experiences.

“This is always an exciting time of year for fans of road cycling and we hope that riders around the world will find it all the more special having been able to ride this incredible new course before the professionals.”

The RGT Team and athletes will celebrate the launch with the Flat Out Flanders Series, a series of events that includes time trials, road races and hill climbs. The series started on September 21, 2021, with prizes on offer from Wahoo.
