At its annual summer board meeting held in Denver in July, the board of directors of Running USA elected new officers to help lead the organization. There were also updates from the CEO and staff regarding the organization’s progress on a variety of projects.
Matt West, CEO of DMSE Sports in Boston, was elected President of the Running USA board. DMSE Sports is a specialist in mass participatory event management and operations. Matt West handles the day-to-day operations of DMSE.
‘He is involved in every event, either via staffing, management or marketing. He also handles many government, client and vendor relations. He previously served as the Running USA board’s vice president.’
Kyle McLaughlin, global CEO of Tough Mudder, was elected Vice President of the board. Tough Mudder is one of the world’s most recognizable obstacle course brands. In 2020, McLaughlin spearheaded Running USA’s participation in the Endurance Sports Coalition, which advocated for federal relief funds for the industry.
Tony Yamanaka, Brand Partnerships Director at BibRave, was elected Secretary of the organization. Meanwhile, re-elected to his position as Treasurer of the organization was Lonnie Somers, founder and CEO of HAL Sports in Colorado.

The Running USA board includes 16 leaders of the running industry.
