Following a registration procedure for UCI professional teams especially adapted in late 2020, to take into account the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) has made public the names of teams that are either registered or that have invitations for the 2021 season.
In addition, the international cycling governing body has announced the award of a new UCI Women’s WorldTour licence.
UCI Women’s WorldTeams (1st division)
UCI’s Licence Commission has decided to award a UCI Women’s WorldTour licence for the period 2021 – 2023, subject to compliance with the provisions for annual registration during the period, to the following team [team name (UCI code – nationality)]:
TEAM SD WORX (SDW – NED).
According to article 2.13.056 of the UCI Regulations, this team will be registered as a UCI Women’s WorldTeam for the 2021 season.
Moreover, the UCI has decided to register the UCI Women’s WorldTeams listed below. These are already holders of a UCI Women’s WorldTour licence for the 2020-2023 period and whose files are judged by the UCI to be in in order – for the 2021 season:
ALE’ BTC LJUBLJANA (ALE – ITA)
CANYON//SRAM RACING (CSR – GER)
FDJ NOUVELLE-AQUITAINE FUTUROSCOPE (FDJ – FRA)
LIV RACING (LIV – NED)

Finally, after hearing teams that had not been able to be registered directly by the UCI, the Licence Commission has decided to register the following UCI Women’s WorldTeams for the upcoming season:
MOVISTAR TEAM WOMEN (MOV – ESP)
GREENEDGE CYCLING (GEC – AUS)
TEAM DSM (DSM – GER).
‘The UCI is delighted by the arrival of a ninth UCI Women’s WorldTeam in addition to the eight existing ones, despite the difficult international health and economic situation. The maximum number of new licences that it will be possible to award during the 2022 registration procedure will be six.’

The registration procedure of UCI Women’s WorldTeams, UCI WorldTeams and UCI ProTeams for the next season has now been completed. In total, 9 UCI Women’s WorldTeams, 19 UCI WorldTeams and 19 UCI ProTeams are registered for the 2021 season.
Obligatory invitations
As the top-ranked UCI ProTeam featuring in the 2020 UCI World Ranking for teams, ALPECIN – FENIX (AFC – BEL) is invited to all the UCI WorldTour events in 2021:
As the second-ranked UCI ProTeam in the 2020 UCI World Ranking for teams, TEAM ARKEA – SAMSIC (ARK – FRA) is invited to the UCI WorldTour one-day races in 2021:
The list of UCI Women’s Continental Teams that will benefit from obligatory invitations to events in the UCI Women’s WorldTour in 2021 will be communicated in January, after the registration procedure for UCI Women’s Continental Teams.
