The ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Championship in Sweden’s Stockholm archipelago is positioned as the race that started the sport of swimrun. Taking place on September 5th, the 16th edition of the event will see 160 teams of two competing, from more than 20 countries.
Billed as one of the toughest one-day races in the world, athletes who have qualified for the world championship will trail run and open water swim for 75km across the Stockholm archipelago. World champions will be decided in the women, mixed and men categories.
ÖTILLÖ means ‘island to island’ in Swedish, and athletes taking place in the event on September 5th qualify via a number of ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Series events.
‘The world championship course is hard and long. Technical trails, slippery rocks, and cold, sometimes rough swims with a lot of current is part of the demanding course of 65km of running and 10km of swimming, over and between 24 islands in the Stockholm archipelago.’
