Gdynia and Poznań in Poland will host cycling races again as part of the Gran Fondo Series, organised by Sport Evolution – the team behind IRONMAN events in Poland.
Gran Fondo Gdynia takes place on May 15, 2022; while Gran Fondo Poznań is set for July 3, 2022. The two events offer traffic free routes, a race jersey, and discounts for participants of last year’s races.
The first Gran Fondo Gdynia competition was held in 2018. The debut edition attracted over 300 cyclists to the start. A year later, participants almost numbered 1,200 riders. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic made it impossible to organize the competition in 2020, for which over 1,800 cyclists were registered.
In 2021, racing returned with redoubled strength as a series of two events: in Gdynia and Poznań.
In both cases, competitors will be able to choose between two main distances: Gran Fondo: 124 km (Gdynia), 111 km (Poznań) and Medio Fondo: 82 km (Gdynia), 65 km (Poznań).
A Gran Fondo Family event is positioned as being more accessible for beginner cyclists and families. Here the distance is 30 km. In this way, the Gran Fondo Series encourages beginner cyclists and whole families to start. As in previous years, the program of the competition will also include ‘very short races for the youngest, i.e. Gran Fondo Kids.’
The organizers have also prepared discounts for those who took part in the Gran Fondo Series 2021. Each cyclist who competed on the Gran Fondo or Medio Fondo distance will receive a special discount voucher for PLN 50 (US$12.50), entitling them to a discount during registration for any this year’s races. Special codes for registration, enabling the voucher to be redeemed, have been to last year’s riders by e-mail.
Gran Fondo Winter Edition
In preparation for the events in May and July, each registered participant will receive a free access to a virtual edition. This is positioned as opportunity to get acquainted with the routes in Gdynia and Poznań.
The Gran Fondo Winter Edition will run as 3-day stage races on digitized routes in the Kinomap app:
- Gran Fondo Winter Edition Gdynia – February 21-23 (registration on February 7 this year)
- Gran Fondo Winter Edition Poznań – March 21-23 (registration on February 14 this year)
For those who are not registered for the Gran Fondo Series 2022 the cost of competing in a single 3-day stage race is PLN 50. The Gran Fondo Winter Edition commemorative medal is included in this price.
