Kaiser Permanente will provide medical care to more than 4,000 registered athletes competing in California’s only full-distance IRONMAN triathlon.
Kaiser Permanente IRONMAN California, part of the VinFast IRONMAN US Series, will be held on October 23. The event includes a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run through Sacramento and its surrounding areas in the Central Valley of California.
“Kaiser Permanente has an unparalleled amount of experience and expertise in the specialized care of sports medicine,” said Scott Meier, MD, a Kaiser Permanente sports medicine physician and medical director for the race.
“We will provide the same level of high-quality care and treatment for IRONMAN California participants as we do for our own members and patients.”
Through its sports medicine program, Kaiser Permanente physicians provide care to athletes at all levels. The medical care provider has a state-of-the-art Sports Medicine Center and Endurance Lab, housed at the Golden One Center in Sacramento.
The facility provides sports medicine treatment combined with advanced physiological testing and biomechanical assessments. Treatment is provided to both professional and amateur athletes who sustain acute and chronic injuries while engaged in sports or physical activity.

Kaiser Permanente has experience providing medical care at large sporting events, similar to IRONMAN California. Kaiser Permanente physicians are the team doctors for professional sports teams, including the Sacramento Kings. In addition, Kaiser Permanente has been the official medical team for the California International Marathon, US Senior PGA Tour, America’s Cup, and the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee.
