Held on September 4th, the opening race of the 2022 Super League Championship Series kicked-off at West India Quay, Canary Wharf, in London.
The organising team noted that racing at Super League London took place in front of thousands of fans at West India Quay. France’s Cassandre Beaugrand and New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde delivered victories as the 2022 Super League Triathlon Championship Series made its debut in London.
The women’s event saw 25-year-old Beaugrand make the decisive move with 200m of the final run leg to go, ahead of America’s Taylor Spivey and a trio of British athletes for the win.
In the men’s event, Wilde overcame a strong field on the final run leg of the unique Triple Mix format ahead of Australia’s Matt Hauser and the UK’s Alex Yee.
The men’s race involved false starts and penalties, eliminations and crashes, and would see Wilde gain revenge over Yee after he was beaten to gold at the Commonwealth Games in July by the British athlete. Jonny Brownlee came home in fifth in his continued return to racing after a serious crash in June.
