This Sunday, August 28, over 2,500 athletes will line up at Lake Zell in Austria to race in the 10th edition of IRONMAN 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun.
The race will feature a strong men and women’s professional field, battling for a share of the US$30,000 prize purse and a qualification slot for 2023 VinFast IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship taking place in Lahti, Finland.
The professional race will be broadcast live on Outside TV. IRONMAN 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun is one of the 11 IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon events throughout the 2022 global season to be featured on Outside TV’s live broadcast list for this year. The broadcast list also includes the 2022 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship taking place in St George, Utah later this year.
IRONMAN 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun has taken place in Austria since 2005. In addition to the pro line-up this year, the city of Zell am See will welcome 2,500 athletes from 50 different countries, the majority of which come from Austria.
Professional Athlete in the mix include: Sebastian Kienle (DEU), fellow German athlete, Jan Stratmann, as well as local athlete Lucas Hollaus (AUT), Andreas Dreitz (DEU), Dylan Magnien (FRA), Tim Reed (AUS) and Ivan Tutukin (KAZ).
Emma Pallant (GBR) will be the favourite going into Sunday’s pro womens showdown. Although, she will be challenged by Imogen Simmonds (CHE), Anne Reischmann (DEU), Els Visser (NLD), Rebecca Clarke (NZL) and Grace Thek (AUS).
The pro men will start their race at 11:00 CEST and the pro women will start at 11.02 CEST.
Athletes at the 2022 IRONMAN 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun will take on one-loop 1.9 km (1.2 mile) swim course that is billed as one of the most spectacular in all of European IRONMAN 70.3 racing. Athletes will swim against backdrop of the glacier-covered Alps in a safe drinking water quality lake.
The one-loop 90 km (56 mile) bike course offers steep climbs and fast descents, including a climb up the Hochkönig.
The two-loop 21.1 km (13.1 mile) new run course leads along the shores of Lake Zell and takes athletes through the old town in the heart of the Austrian alps.
