Muc-Off has announced an award win at the Design & Innovation Awards 2022, taking victory with Punk Powder, which is billed as ‘the world’s first plastic-free bike cleaner’.
The Design & Innovation Award has become a benchmark achievement for the bike industry’s highest-performing products, with a select group of international journalists, professional test riders, and industry experts spending more than 6,000 hours during the testing process.
The Design & Innovation Award organisers noted… ‘Punk Powder is easy to mix with water and its excellent cleaning power will leave your bikes shining like new, even after the filthiest mud fight. If that isn’t enough, the price point means it’s cheaper than the equivalent 2 x 1L bottles of cleaner. So Punk Powder isn’t just good for the environment, but also your wallet.’
Muc-Off’s Punk Powder contains readily biodegradable ingredients and uses 92% less packaging than the equivalent two 1L bottles of its Nano Tech Cleaner. The fast-dissolving powdered formula is ready for use within seconds of water being added. It can be mixed in an old Muc-Off plastic bottle or in one of the company’s aluminium Bottles for Life.
Alex Trimnell, CEO at Muc-Off, said “We’re stoked to see the team’s hard work be recognised with this award win. Punk Powder was in development for a number of years, as we perfected the formula to ensure it delivered the legendary cleaning power Muc-Off is known for.
“We’re always pushing boundaries in innovation, particularly when it comes to sustainability, and this win is a celebration of that – it drives us to keep finding innovative ways to improve riders’ experiences.”
Back in 2020, Muc-Off launched its Project Green Initiative. The company notes that it has since saved over 136 tonnes of plastic through packaging swaps and product innovations, and is fast closing in on its 200-tonne, end of year target.
