According to a report by Reuters, Nike has filed a lawsuit accusing Lululemon of patent infringement over the making and selling of ‘the MIRROR home gym and related mobile apps without authorization.’
A recent retail expansion by Lululemon in Canada increased MIRROR’s in-store presence to almost 200 locations in North America – with Lululemon aiming to strengthen its community connection through the platform.
MIRROR offers new live classes daily led by lululemon MIRROR ambassadors. Thousands of on-demand workouts are available 24/7 – including boxing, barre, cardio, strength, yoga, meditation and more, in addition to inclusive offerings for family and prenatal/postnatal.
Certified trainers provide expert instruction, motivation and live feedback in classes spanning 50+ genres, ranging from 5- to 60-minute sessions for beginner to expert levels.
Reuters reports that Nike has accused its rival of infringing six patents. This reportedly includes the use of technology that enables users to target specific levels of exertion, compete with other users, and record their own performance.
Lululemon acquired MIRROR in July 2020 for around US$453 million. It issued a statement in response to Nike’s lawsuit… ‘The patents in question are overly broad and invalid. We are confident in our position and look forward to defending it in court.’
