SunGod signs British ultrarunner Tom Evans

Performance eyewear brand, SunGod, has announced a partnership with British ultrarunner, Tom Evans. Currently in Chamonix for the 2022 Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) ultramarathon in Chamonix, France, the elite athlete has been using SunGod’s dedicated eyewear collection for runners, the Ultras.

A former British Army Captain, Tom Evans burst onto the ultra run scene with his 2017 third place finish at the Marathon des Sables, before going onto secure victory in the 2018 CCC – Courmayeur-Champex-Chamonix – the 101km ‘Little Sister’ of the UTMB.

SunGod notes that… ‘Tom became a professional ultra-runner in 2019 when he left the military to pursue his passion, establishing himself as one of the stars of the ultra-endurance scene – with top race places across the globe.’

Known for his positive nature and a proven record of overcoming adversity and injury, the UTMB will be Evans’ biggest test since undergoing major surgery just one year ago. Following years of knee issues, and after recovering from collapsing at the British Olympic Marathon trials and ending up in hospital for 36 hours, he opted to have IT band lengthening surgery to avoid further knee trouble.

Re-establishing his presence on the racing scene, the athlete won the technically challenging 65km Transgrancanaria in March 2022 and has focused on preparing himself for getting to the start line of UTMB 2022.

“I’ve always been one to make sure that the kit I use is not just the best, but that it’s comfortable and fit for purpose,” Evans said.

“I’ve spent countless hours testing and trying out different options, and the 8KO lenses in the SunGod Ultras are unlike anything else I’ve tried. Especially when I’m tired towards the harder sections of races, being able to see exactly what’s in front of me with clarity is such a game-changer – and something I can’t wait to take into UTMB and beyond.”
