Tailwind Nutrition is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this month. In 2012, athlete Jeff Vierling founded the company after competing in the Leadville 100 for multiple years and how important nutrition is for performance.
Tailwind’s first product, Endurance Fuel, aimed to solve common issues that endurance athletes can experience, such as: stomach problems (feeling full/bloated and worse), keeping track of calories, electrolytes, and hydration, and the sickly sweet taste of sports drinks.
This was followed by Recovery Mix, with rice protein and amino acids, carbohydrates and electrolytes for recovery.
“Ten years ago, we launched Tailwind Nutrition with the mission of being a support crew, helping athletes achieve their goals with simple, proven nutrition and cheering them on every step of the way,” said Jeff Vierling, Co-Founder of Tailwind.
“The amazing stories customers share inspire us every day, and we’re incredibly grateful Tailwind can help them reach their personal goals.”
Tailwind Nutrition is introducing a number of initiatives to celebrate the anniversary.
First, the brand is offering a limited-edition Orange Vanilla Sunshine Recovery Mix, with 10% of the proceeds benefiting Bigger Than the Trail, a non-profit that uses trail running as a platform to advocate for mental health.
The product will be available to buy on Tailwind’s website starting May 9th for rewards members and May 10th for the general public. Orange Vanilla Sunshine Recovery Mix will be available until it sells out.
In addition, fans of Tailwind can also enter its 10 year anniversary giveaway. Here, Tailwind is partnering with some of its favourite brands to give away prize packages. These include products from Outdoor Research, Diamondback, SCARPA and Princeton Tec. Followers can enter by following Tailwind Nutrition and the participating brands on social media, liking the give-away post, and signing up for Tailwind’s email newsletter.
In tandem, the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic in Tailwind Nutrition’s hometown of Durango, CO, is celebrating its 50th anniversary on May 27-30, and Tailwind is a major event sponsor. The Iron Horse is where Vierling first launched the Tailwind brand 10 years ago, so 2022 is seen as a natural partnership.
Tailwind will sponsor the brand new Ouray-Silverton event, where riders will pedal over Red Mountain Pass. The route covers 3,300 feet of vertical gain in just 23 miles. Back in Durango, Tailwind is also a sponsor of the Dual Slalom and Roost Master mountain bike events at Chapman Hill.
Also in celebration of the Iron Horse, Tailwind has teamed up with local breweries Ska Brewing and Steamworks Brewing Co to contribute to their annual Iron Horse beer collaboration, marking Tailwind’s first-ever beer collaboration.
This year, Faceplant is a light lager infused with Tailwind Mandarin Orange electrolytes. The special, limited-edition lager is now available at liquor stores and will be on tap at the breweries over Iron Horse weekend.
Tailwind also invites its fans and ambassadors to participate in the “Tailwind Turns 10” Strava Club. Ten club members will be chosen at random at the end of the month to win a 50-serving bag of Tailwind.
Last but not least, Tailwind has introduced a rewards program for its loyal customers where members can gain access to new products and receive discounts.
