HOKA has unveiled its newest performance trail shoe, the Tecton X, available at HOKA.com and authorised retailers from May 1, 2022.
The Tecton X is the first carbon plated shoe in HOKA’s trail shoe product family. According to the company, it offers an… ‘innovative, dual-plated design matched with a signature dual-density cushioned midsole for a ride that is as propulsive as it is precise.’
Named after the earth’s tectonic plates, which inspired its parallel carbon fibre plate design, the new Tecton X has an innovative midsole. This features two carbon fibre plates positioned parallel to each other, running lengthwise from toe to heel.
The unique design claims to offer a propulsive, smooth stride, while also allowing for dynamic movement on technical trail surfaces.
Billed as a first in the trail space, the dual parallel carbon plates allow for… ‘significant ground feel underfoot, crucial for the body’s ability to sense uneven terrain on the trails – while maintaining remarkable propulsion.’

The Tecton X features a ProFlyX midsole, which offers a dual-density cushion experience. Designed with a soft, lightweight foam directly underfoot with a firmer layer underneath, runners can experience a responsive toe off, while still maintaining a cushioned and supportive landing.
HOKA adds that… ‘The combination of dual-density HOKA cushioning with dynamic, parallel carbon fibre plates delivers an unquestionably fast ride, while still soft underfoot, making the Tecton X an ideal choice for both up-tempo training miles and race day.’
Finished with single-layer jacquard engineered mesh upper, runners should experience foot-hugging comfort and security around the midfoot. The addition of a sock liner adds extra cushion for comfort upon step-in.
The outsole utilizes Vibram Megagrip with Litebase construction, designed to provide confidence on challenging terrain while adding minimal weight. The 4mm lugs give additional protection from rocks and trail debris.
