Tough Mudder to host 24-Hour OCR World Championships

Tough Mudder has announced that the World’s Toughest Mudder (WTM) has been sanctioned as the 24-Hour OCR (Obstacle Course Racing) World Championships.

The event will take place in Atmore, Alabama, on November 12-13, 2022, and will bring together some of the world’s top athletes for a weekend of competition during which world champions will be crowned.

“World’s Toughest Mudder is the most extreme 24-hour obstacle course on the planet, and we’re thrilled to host the 24-Hour OCR World Championships at our Gulf Coast event,” said Tough Mudder CEO Giles Chater.

“As the first sanctioned world championships of its type, this event will provide an opportunity for the world’s top athletes to set the bar for years to come, whilst enjoying the community, camaraderie and classic Tough Mudder ‘twists’ that make this event truly unique.”

Ian Adamson, President of the Fédération Internationale de Sports d’Obstacles (FISO), said “World Obstacle is thrilled that the WTM is joining the global system of world level events for obstacle sports.

“Athletes from our member federations in 110 countries can join thousands of other competitors and represent on their national teams at this important championship. Timing is perfect considering the recent news regarding an obstacle event being tested for inclusion on the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic program.”

World Obstacle, the Fédération Internationale de Sports d’Obstacles (FISO), is a Swiss based not-for-profit independent international sports organization. It provides governance and represents the needs of its member national federations and their athlete communities.

FISO was granted Observer Status of GAISF (the Global Association of International Sports Federations) in 2021, seen as a key step toward obstacle course racing’s potential Olympic recognition.

The 24-Hour OCR World Championships will take place as part of the World’s Toughest Mudder 2022 event. Athletes competing for podium positions, prize money, and world records at the championship event can register through Tough Mudder and must qualify as contenders in accordance with World’s Toughest Mudder rules.

Additionally, athletes of all ability levels can register to participate in the ‘open’ and ‘team’ categories at the event.
