Following a year of piloting on a range of events, including Red Bull Hardline and Naughty Northumbrian Enduro, Trash Free Trails (TFT) is launching its TFT Approved Scheme.
The aim of the TFT Approved Scheme is to work towards more sustainable events, making a positive and impactful reduction in single-use products and minimising the impact on the trails and wild places that host events. The scheme is positioned as an easy and supportive way to reduce an event’s environmental impact, making it more sustainable, improving the event’s overall sustainability credentials.
To help achieve this the guidance framework is broken down into three main areas – Pre-event, Race Day, and Post-Event. The scheme relies on staff, suppliers, competitors and spectators, from sofa to the start line.
TFT Approved was created to be self-administered and self-certified. For an event to be considered TFT Approved, the organisers work their way through guidance documentation, including suggestions where improvements might be made, before completing a checklist.
Depending on the score – bronze, silver, or gold asset packs are released by TFT that can be used to promote the event. Whatever the score, each level of accreditation provides opportunities for improvement year on year.
Thanks to the support of its partnership ecosystem, particularly Red Bull and the Enduro World Series, the guidance, checklist, accreditation status and assets are all free to use.
All TFT seeks in return is feedback on the process as a whole. This will in turn inform the ongoing development of the resources, such that race teams, vendors, exhibitors and other stakeholders might be able to attain TFT Approved status in the years to come.
