The Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift have welcomed navigation app firm Waze as a partner for the next three years.
The two events have joined the 300 event organizers of the Waze Global Event program. This is a data exchange partnership that aims to reduce traffic congestion on the day of the event and improve traffic conditions by using technology, data and information from Waze.
Throughout the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes, Waze’s mapping will show the events’ 4,000 km of closed roads, start and finish lines, parking lots and live traffic speeds, in order to that drivers can orient themselves and be better informed about event traffic.
‘Thanks to this partnership, the Tour de France will be able to benefit from Waze tools and technologies to reduce parking and traffic problems and improve the experience of lovers of the Grande Boucle who come along the entire route.’
Waze also becomes an official sponsor of the two events, supporting the logistics and outfitting four security vehicles and a guest car in the Tour ‘caravan’ – the procession of vehicles which precedes the passage of the riders by a few hours, on each of the stages. The caravan will precede the events from Copenhagen to Paris and from Paris to the Super Planche des Belles Filles.
“This year, the Tour de France and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, there are 4,357 km of roads covered in total,” said Julien Goupil, Media & Partnerships Director of Amaury Sport Organisation.
“Each step requires securing and adapting the traffic. The recognized expertise of Waze is an undeniable asset for the Tour de France experience of spectators and professionals who follow us on a daily basis. They will be better guided to reach the points of passage of the champions and champions of the Tour. This partnership will bring spectators closer to the race.”
Harris Beber, CMO of Waze, said “Waze is designed to bring the most useful and trusted resources to drivers around the world, so partnering with one of the world’s most famous sporting events was a no-brainer.
“Our community is our superpower: from Copenhagen to the Champs-Élysées, Tour spectators can rest assured that Waze will help them navigate every step.”
