The World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) has welcomed Michelle Smyth as the trade organisation’s new Head of Cycling.
“I’m thoroughly looking forward to joining the team at the WFSGI and working with the members of the Bicycle Committee,” said Michelle Smyth, WFSGI Head of Cycling.
“The role of Head of Cycling is a great opportunity for me to combine my passion for physical activity with my legal background and cycling industry experience.”
Michelle Smyth is taking on the role of ‘Head of Cycling’, formerly known as ‘Head of Bicycle’. The WFSGI has renamed this position as it is seen to better encompasses Smyth’s new role. Her role is to proactively support and coordinate WFSGI activities on behalf of the organisation’s bicycle brand members and the WFSGI Secretariat and help grow its services and offering to the bicycle industry.
Her role is to regularly engage with the WFSGI membership and the WFSGI Bicycle Committees, identifying new topics and services, particularly in relation to WFSGI helping the industry capitalize on a recent cycling boom, along with supporting relations with the UCI, ITU, UN agencies and other international organizations and associations.
“WFSGI has in its membership the leading bicycle brands; and we are confident that Michelle Smyth is the right fit to actively engage and strengthen the bicycle and cycling activities between members and stakeholders,” said Robbert de Kock, WFSGI President and CEO.
Smyth has replaced Mark Barfield who was formerly the Head of Bicycle at the WFSGI from 2018. “We want to thank Mark for all he has done for the WFSGI and wish him all the best in his new endeavour” added Robbert de Kock.
Michelle Smyth has a dual French and English Law degree and formerly practiced as a solicitor in the UK. She has spent the past 10 years working in varied roles across event organization, marketing and partnerships for sports brands. She played basketball internationally and now lives in France where she spends her free time cycling, running and skiing.
