XTERRA has released a (short) video to showcase racing at its new XTERRA Short Track series, which is an invite-only event exclusive to the top 25 eligible men and women.
XTERRA notes that, while qualification procedures vary per event, the majority of competitors earn their spot via XTERRA World Rankings status… ‘To add intrigue and value to the broadcast, wild card slots are awarded to local racers, young guns, and short track specialists likely to shake up the status quo.’
The first short track event was held in Xonrupt, France, on July 2, as part of four events in the 2022 XTERRA Short Track Series.
A new format was unveiled for the race in France. This challenged competitors to a 200m swim, 2km mountain bike, and 1km trail run, over three rounds. XTERRA noted that, ‘the action was non-stop with dozens of lead changes and podium spots decided by seconds.’
Panagiotis Bitados (GRE) and Loanne Duvoisin (CHE) won XTERRA Short Track France off-road triathlon titles – with times of 39:35 and 46:10, respectively.
