The Boston 10K for Women, presented by REI, is the longest-running all-women’s sporting event in New England. In a tie-up with Kinomap, which filmed the race course on October 7, the event will now be showcased via the Kinomap for Races course simulation platform.
The Boston 10K for Women is New England’s largest all-women’s road race, and has been organized since inception by Conventures. Kinomap is giving the event broader exposure with a simulated virtual event that will feature on the Kinomap training and racing platform.
Kinomap notes that a simulated race can take place on a treadmill or other cardio equipment, where the athlete can experience the elevation gains and drops of a course, and… ‘see the sights and spectators as if they were running on the course itself, and ultimately cross the finish line just like being there on race day.’
Video of the race day experience is displayed in first person on a tablet, TV or smartphone, Kinomap adds that event organizers can collect registration fees, promote charity fundraising, distribute swag and medals to simulated participants and offer in-video advertising, providing sponsors a targeted, international reach.
“The Boston 10K for Women is a wonderful opportunity for Kinomap to create an exact race day simulation of historic downtown Boston on a crisp fall morning,” said Gary McNamee, Kinomap’s Managing Director of North American Operations.
Students from all over the world have come here for our colleges and universities, and running these same streets, including along the Charles River, have always been a staple for their daily fitness routine.
Kinomap for Races can now bring those streets to the runner, no matter where life has taken them, in a fun and engaging event.”
TK Skenderian, Director of Marketing and Communications for Conventures, said “We’re thrilled to give runners around the world the chance to experience our event through Kinomap.
“We know that not everyone can make it to Boston to race along our course, so a simulated race gives a global audience the next best thing. Kinomap for Races helps us share our event with female athletes everywhere, and we’re excited to see the finished product.”
