Running from February 17 to March 3, 2023, Strava is running an Earthquake Relief Challenge on its platform. The challenge is asking users to record 10 minutes of any activity type in one go to earn a badge (a Strava verification of completing the challenge) and, most importantly, to donate to a Just Giving Page if they are able to.
All donations will go to the International Committee of the Red Cross, which provides direct relief – including food, water, blankets, medical and hygiene supplies, and first aid – to those affected and displaced by the disaster.
The challenge is seen as a way for the Strava community to get together and offer support to the victims of the devastation that has taken place in Türkiye and Syria in recent weeks.
As at the time of writing, the challenge has garnered over 320,000 participants and numbers continue to grow. Last year Strava organised the Ukraine Relief Challenge which rallied together 831,552 participants who were encouraged to complete a single activity of 5 kilometres – raising just over US$460,000.
