Set to take place on April 15, 2024, the 128th Boston Marathon will feature a field size of 30,000 athletes and will mark the first Boston Marathon with Bank of America as presenting partner.
With nearly one month to go until registration opens for the iconic marathon, the Boston Athletic Association has reminded athletes of what to expect during registration week, September 11-15.
Registration timetable
Qualifier registration will open on Monday, September 11 at 10:00 ET and will close on Friday, September 15, 2023, at 17:00 ET.
The B.A.A. will use the same registration process for qualified runners as it used for the 2021, 2022, and 2023 races, allowing any athlete who has achieved a currently valid Boston Marathon qualifying time to submit a registration application during September 11–15.
Registration will be held online. It is not on a first-come, first-served basis – all applications will be accepted until 17:00 ET on Friday, September 15 and treated in the same manor regardless of when they are submitted during the application period.
To enhance the Boston Marathon registration experience, the B.A.A. is offering a special pre-verification period for 128th Boston Marathon qualifying times. This allows the event organising team to confirm and verify an athlete’s qualifying time early so that when applying between September 11-15, the athlete’s qualifying information is already in the system.
Pre-verification submission is open within the online Athletes’ Village through August 23.
Achieving a Boston Marathon qualifying standard does not guarantee acceptance into the event. Those who are fastest among the pool of applicants in their age and gender group will be accepted.
The entry fee for accepted qualifiers will be US$230 for United States residents and US$235 for international residents. Participants will have the opportunity to purchase registration insurance at the point of registration. Entry fees will only be processed once an athlete is accepted into the Boston Marathon.
