The fourth edition of Patagonman took place on December 3, 2023 in Aysen, Patagonia, in Chile.
Despite an expectation of brutal conditions – with the week leading up to the event seeing relentless rain and snow – race day on Sunday witnessed a remarkable turnaround. The sun graced the occasion, casting a golden glow over the landscapes of Patagonia. The temperature, while chilly, was complemented by a clear blue sky.
One of the noteworthy adaptations this year was made due to the unpredictable weather conditions with a modification of the swim course. With the water temperature at 8.3C (46.9F), the organizers made the decision to shorten the swim to 2,000m. The organising added that this… ‘ensured the safety and well-being of the participants while maintaining the integrity of the competition.’
Patagonman is renowned for its challenging course set amidst the scenery of Patagonia. Athletes from 48 countries gathered to take on the course and the elements.
In the men’s race Jan Stepenski, representing the United States, took the coveted title of Patagonman 2023 champion. Raynard Picard and Troy Romero, both from México, completed the podium.
In the women’s race, Laura Siddall from the United Kingdom, was not only the first woman to cross the finish line but also the second overall, amongst all male and female participants. The female podium was completed with Saleta Castro, from Spain and Karla Picard from Mexico.
