Mastercard x Shalane Flanagan activations at 2023 TCS NYC Marathon

Mastercard is linking-up with three-time Olympian and New York City Marathon champion Shalane Flanagan at this year’s TCS NYC Marathon, which is set for Sunday, November 5, 2023.

As a Mastercard Global Endurance Ambassador, Shalane Flanagan will aim to empower small business owners and provide runners and spectators with an enhanced, memorable experience at this year’s marathon.

The marathon weekend race will feature a number of Mastercard x Shalane Flanagan activations, which include:

  • Hosting a virtual ‘Personal Best’ pre-race coaching session for cardholders featuring mile-by-mile strategies, nutrition and fuelling tips and more.
  • Engaging with fans, runners and local small business owners throughout marathon week at Mastercard’s expo space, pre-race hospitality tent and Cheer Zones.
  • Surprising runners – with Shalane Flanagan participating in the Priceless Start, a VIP experience for select cardholders, employees, small businesses and other Mastercard partners.
  • Spotlighting NYC-based small business owner Vanessa Martin of SIN Workouts, who is also running the marathon with Mastercard. This will leverage social channels to drive awareness of a local business having a positive impact on the community
  • Partnering with viral social media influencer Ted Zhar to amplify NYC small businesses via his ‘what do you do for a living’ style videos. This content will feature Mastercard fitness-focused small business Brash Fit and the owner CJ Hernandez.

 

 
Fan experiences supported by Mastercard include:

  • Mastercard at the Expo: (November 2-4, 2023 from 10:00-20:00 ET on Thursday-Friday, and 09:00-17:00 on Saturday): here spectators and runners can visit Mastercard’s Expo space for ‘Priceless surprises’, photo opportunities, and even to shop local businesses while enjoying the atmosphere of marathon week at the ‘Small Business Boulevard’.
  • Mastercard Cheer Zones: at Mile 8 and Mile 16 with free swag, DJs and saved seating
  • Fans can also listen to the LIVE WABC-TV/ESPN2 coverage of the race around the finish line and spectator areas via Mastercard’s complimentary broadcast headsets. 20,000 branded earpieces will be distributed to cardholders in and around the Central Park finish line as part of Mastercard’s mission to enhance the fan experience.
