The 2023 TCS NYC Marathon App is available for download, offering race participants and fans access to a variety of content and features. The app has been released ahead of the TCS New York City Marathon, which takes place on Sunday, November 5, 2023.
The app provides real-time data, helping spectators and fans track an unlimited number of runners during the entire 26.2-mile journey, across all five NYC boroughs.
Exclusive to the app, the first-of-its-kind Course Camera feature lets fans watch a live feed of their favourite runners at five key points along the course – the start, mile 8 in Brooklyn, mile 17 in the Upper East Side, mile 20 in the Bronx, and at the finish in Central Park.
New this year and also exclusive to the app, the Webby award-winning pro race livestream is enhanced with stats from the race and live commentary from marathon champions Des Linden, Galen Rupp, and Amanda McGrory.
Developed and powered by Tata Consultancy Services, the free TCS New York City Marathon App is available now on the App Store and Google Play.
There are a range of app features:
- Track an unlimited number of participants by name, bib number, or by club, and then use the map feature to watch their progress on the 26.2 miles of New York City streets. In 2022, runners were tracked 1,940,777 times.
- Cameras are placed at five strategic locations along the TCS New York City Marathon route. Under the ‘Tune In Live’ tab, app users can select Course Cameras to watch runners at the start, on 4th Avenue in Brooklyn, 1st Avenue in Manhattan, Mile 20 in the Bronx, and the finish line. People tuned in to this feature 324,668 times last year.
- Watch the entirety of the four pro races through the Pro Race Livestream found under the ‘Tune In Live’ tab. In 2022, people from over 150 countries livestreamed the pro races 313,941 times.
- In 2023, the Pro Race Livestream features added exclusive live commentary only available in the app from Olympians Des Linden and Galen Rupp and Paralympian Amanda McGrory.
- New in 2023, the Pro Race Livestream will feature TCS Stats – key data points from the race. These graphics appearing on the Second Screen will include the pace of the lead packs, the weather, and interesting historical facts.
- The Spectator Guide helps spectators to create an itinerary with the best directions for spotting a runner during the race.
- A Runner Confirmation Form on the race app can be used it to collect a race bib at the expo. This form includes bib number, bib pick-up time, start-line details, and start- line transportation information.
- For the first time, the TCS New York City Marathon app includes a sustainability calculator. App users can use this tool to measure environmental impact over the race weekend and make greener choices.
- Belief Boosters are notes of encouragement that can be sent to runners with TCS New York City Marathon imagery.
Nearly three million people have downloaded the TCS New York City Marathon app over the last 10 years. Every year, during the first weekend in November, this app is reportedly the #1 most downloaded sports app worldwide.
