Strava has unveiled its new Flyover feature, which displays a 3D video map with a signature orange polyline to recreate an athlete’s activities.
The Flyover is a video recap of the activity from a bird’s eye view, offering Strava subscribers a different take on their activity. Starting by zooming into the route, it displays the signature Strava orange polyline in motion as the athlete moves throughout the activity. Flyovers are available for all GPS-enabled activities on the subscriber’s profile, including past activities.
Athletes can access Flyover by tapping on the map of a GPS-based activity to open a detailed map screen. From there, they tap on the Flyover button on the bottom right corner and the Flyover video will play. Now available on Android devices, Flyover will be available on all iOS devices by the end of 2023.
The new feature is the latest integration of FATMAP’s mapping technology into the platform. Along with acquiring the outdoor adventure platform earlier this year, Strava has been rolling out additional features for athletes. These include: winter 3D maps, maps and route creation, custom waypoints, route details and photos via the online Route Builder.
Strava reports more than 100 million active people on its platform in more than 190 countries. Now supporting 45 different activity types, the platform continues to add subscriber benefits, such as ski area mapping, Recover Athletics pre-hab content, Beacon safety tracking, route recommendations, an online route builder, global and personal heatmaps, and segment leaderboards.
