IRONMAN will celebrate 10 years of racing at the 2024 edition of IRONMAN Chattanooga triathlon, part of the VinFast IRONMAN North America Series. The tenth edition of IRONMAN Chattanooga is scheduled to take place on September 29, 2024.
In 2024, it has been announced that First Horizon Bank will serve as title partner for this year’s event. Headquartered in Tennessee and operating since 1864, First Horizon Bank provides financial services through locations in 12 states across the southeast USA.
“First Horizon is thrilled to welcome IRONMAN athletes, their friends, and families to Chattanooga,” said Jay Dale, Chattanooga Market President for First Horizon Bank.
“The long hours of training will soon pay off and we hope everyone will enjoy the special place we call home. From the starting swim in the Tennessee River to the finish line at Ross’s Landing, First Horizon will be there to cheer on IRONMAN athletes.”
For the 2024 event, IRONMAN is also unveiling a new bike course for the First Horizon Bank IRONMAN Chattanooga triathlon. Athletes competing this September will experience more of Southeastern Tennessee than before while on their 140.6-mile IRONMAN journey throughout the region.
Once out of the water, athletes will exit transition on Riverfront Parkway and head south to Martin Luther King Boulevard and on to US-27. Athletes will then head north through Red Bank and up to Soddy Daisy. Athletes will complete three loops on US-27 before heading back toward Chattanooga.
The new bike course will offer a dedicated lane throughout the entire course, with views and fresh pavement as athletes parallel the Cumberland Plateau during the ride. The new course will consist of 4,300 feet of elevation gain across 112-miles.
At the 10th anniversary, IRONMAN notes that… ‘athletes can expect new race experiences, enhanced participant support, and an electrifying atmosphere that celebrates the essence of human resilience.’
As part of the tenth anniversary event enhancements, IRONMAN and Chattanooga Tourism have partnered with a local Chattanooga artist to create a commemorative 2024 finisher medal. This aims to embody Chattanooga’s icons, culture, history, and a decade of racing in the Scenic City. The 2024 finisher medal will be unveiled soon.
Other enhanced IRONMAN experiences coming to First Horizon Bank IRONMAN Chattanooga in 2024 include pre-race and athlete material improvements, a Saturday practice swim, a photo hour at the finish line, HOKA Shake Out Run, nutrition and other race talks during the IRONMAN Village expo, and more.
Since the inaugural event in 2014, the popular southeastern IRONMAN triathlon has attracted athletes from around the world to race through the Scenic City’s community and backdrop.
“Over the past 10 years, we’ve seen thousands of athletes cross their finish line here in Chattanooga, proving just why the IRONMAN Chattanooga triathlon continues to be such a popular race,” said Scott Langen, Vice President, Operations – North America for IRONMAN.
“This event would not be possible without the dedication of athletes, volunteers, sponsors, and the support of the entire IRONMAN community over the past decade of racing here in Chattanooga. The upcoming 10th anniversary is not only a celebration of IRONMAN Chattanooga events past, but also empowering athletes to reach their dreams for years to come and celebrate our beautiful Southern host community.
“We invite athletes of all levels to join us in 2024 to be part of history, to create their own stories of memories and to continue to be a part of the legacy of the IRONMAN Chattanooga triathlon.”
Tim Morgan, Chief Sports Officer, Chattanooga Tourism Co, said “We are thrilled to celebrate the 10th anniversary of IRONMAN Chattanooga. Over the years, our partnership with IRONMAN has grown, enabling us to host not only this incredible event but also the IRONMAN 70.3 and 2017 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship.
“We are grateful to host all the athletes from around the world who have come to experience the beauty and spirit of Chattanooga through these events.”
