20th anniversary: The Extra Mile and Kings of Pain books from Rapha

Published to mark Rapha’s 20th anniversary, The Extra Mile tells the inside story of how the British cycling apparel brand was built.

The book features hundreds of photographs taken from the brand’s extensive archive. These illustrate some never-told-before-stories and together have created a detailed catalogue of Rapha’s history.

The story is narrated by Rapha’s founder Simon Mottram and over 30 Rapha staff, friends and collaborators. Edited by Rouleur founder and cycling author Guy Andrews, The Extra Mile is the billed as complete inside story of building the Rapha brand.

Alongside The Extra Mile, Rapha has revisited and updated its Kings of Pain book, which features historical imagery and stories from the Tour de France.

In the 20th anniversary edition of Kings of Pain, Rapha has revised the text from the original book and updated it with a selection of pieces taken from Rapha Editions’ publications.

Combining extracts from award-winning cycling authors, alongside a revised edit of images from the Pressesports archive in Paris, Rapha notes that the result is a bigger and broader take on the riders who wrote the history of the world’s greatest bike race.
