How the world sleeps, according to Garmin Connect sleep score data

Ahead of World Sleep Day 2024, Garmin is unveiling research into how well the world sleeps.

Garmin’s worldwide data has found that women sleep slightly better than men, with an average sleep score of 71 for women and 70 for men.

The worldwide data also found that sleep scores decrease with age; with those aged 13-30 achieving an average score of 73. Meanwhile, those aged 31-40 average a score of 71.

41-50 year-olds saw an average of 70, with those aged 51-60 getting a score of 68, 61–70-year-olds managing an average of 66 and lastly, 71–80-year-olds getting an average sleep score of 63.

Garmin Connect sleep score data has found that Garmin users in the UK and Ireland have prioritised sleep in the last year, showing a significant increase in users’ average scores.

So far this year, the UK has climbed up the sleep score leaderboard to scrape into the top 10, up nine places versus 2023 data. The UK’s average sleep score according to Garmin Connect data is 71.43, up from 69.29 last year.

Ireland’s Garmin users have also seen an improvement in their sleep, moving up the ranks from 17th position in 2023 to the 13th spot this year. Ireland’s average sleep score according to Garmin Connect data is 71.34, up from 69.39 last year.
