Having confirmed its international expansion plans in 2023, the TRITON World Series has opened registration for TRITON 3 Rio de Janeiro, set for August 9-11 at the Portobello Resort & Safari in Mangaratiba, Rio de Janeiro.
In addition to TRITON 3 Rio de Janeiro, in 2024 the circuit will also include TRITON 1 Salvador and TRITON 1 Lisboa, in the Portuguese capital. In 2025, the circuit will start in Portimão (Portugal), with other events to be confirmed in due course.
The Rio de Janeiro race is organized by 213 Sports, a partner of the TRITON World Series, together with Blue Orange and Soul Race USA.
Based at the Portobello Resort & Safari, the event weekend marks the debut in Brazil of TRITON’s race model, where each discipline – swimming, cycling and running – is held on consecutive days. All races have three distance options (short, middle and long) and athletes can also choose between three types of race entry.
In TRITON 3 Solo, athletes will be entered in all the disciplines on consecutive days over the same distance. The other possibility is a relay, in the middle distance, with 2-3 athletes taking part. Finally, an athlete can select the disciplines individually, without the obligation to take part in all three days of the event and at the distances of their choice.
“TRITON’s main objective is to introduce the best-known sports disciplines in Brazil, but also to offer three completely different approaches,” said Marcos Rizzardi, Head of TRITON in Brazil.
“One is for those who want to explore each discipline in a safe and relaxed way, while the other is for those who want to challenge new distances. Above all, TRITON offers a unique opportunity for those who want to leave their mark on history, since the winner will be the first and only record holder.
“For example, at TRITON Brasil Rio de Janeiro, the record will be set by the fastest participant in the race, at least until the next edition. However, the title of first record holder will remain eternal in TRITON history. It will be a unique experience, we expect everyone, because TRITON is for everyone.”
- The swimming races will be 1,000m (Short), 2,000m (Middle) and 3,000m (Long);
- The cycling courses will be 50km (Short), 100km (Middle) and 150km (Long); and
- The running courses will be 10km (Short), 20km (Middle) and 30km (Long).
While the swimming and running events will take place in the surroundings of Portobello, the cycling event will take place on the challenging Serra do Piloto course, north of the municipality of Mangaratiba.
On Friday, August 9, the swimming races will take place. On the 10th, the cycling events will take place. On Sunday, the 11th, the running races will be held. The event weekend will also include a race for children, with categories from children aged up to 14 years old. Children under the age of two must be accompanied by a legal guardian.
“The TRITON 3 couldn’t have chosen a better location for its debut on Brazilian soil,” said André Gracindo, TRITON’s Global Head of Operations.
“In the heart of the Costa Verde, at the base of the Portobello Resort, the athletes will be able to enjoy the best possible conditions for each of the disciplines. The swimming race will take place in sheltered waters, on Portobello’s exclusive private beach. The cycling race will be on the mythical Serra do Piloto road, a 13km climb that will demand a lot of energy and strategy from the athletes, with gravel sections and sequences of climbs and descents.”
