Final Surge has introduced a new HRV & Morning Readiness feature in the latest version of its coaching app and platform.
Athletes who have a Final Surge Athlete Premium subscription can now take a daily HRV reading each morning using only their phone’s camera.
‘By simply placing a finger over the phone’s camera, the Final Surge app can now determine an athlete’s HRV (Heart Rate Variability), resting heart rate, and show the athlete a Readiness Score, helping to make smart, informed decisions about training and recovery.’
Final Surge added that… ‘Starting your day with a morning HRV reading is like unlocking a crystal-clear insight into your body’s true state of stress and recovery. This practice is essential because HRV is a critical measure of your autonomic nervous system’s balance, and it’s highly sensitive to daily fluctuations.’
By taking daily readings consistently, a Readiness Score of 1 to 10 is generated, along with a recommendation on how to proceed going into a next training session. The Readiness Score is also colour coded (red, yellow and green) to give the athlete a visual indicator of their readiness.
Coaches also have access to view their athletes’ HRV and Readiness Score each day, giving them an additional tool to monitor athlete recovery and to help make informed decisions on future training.
“HRV is a widely used metric within the endurance training space, so it’s exciting to have this new feature built directly into our app,” said Tim Surface, Co-Founder of Final Surge.
“With consistent readings each morning, our new Readiness Score will greatly benefit athletes and help them reach their goals.”
