On September 22, 2024, Laura Philipp of Germany became the first woman to win the VinFast IRONMAN World Championship in Nice, France.
The world’s top female triathletes had the world looking on as they swam, biked and ran across the Côte d’Azur in a bid to be crowned the 2024 VinFast IRONMAN World Champion. Laura Phillip captured her first IRONMAN World Championship title taking home US$125,000 in prize money, after finishing with a third and two fourths in her previous IRONMAN World Championship attempts.
Despite cramping in the final miles, Great Britain’s Kat Matthews took her second IRONMAN World Championship second place finish, while 2022 IRONMAN World Champion Chelsea Sodaro from the United States ran her way into in third position to round out the podium.

The race kicked off with the 2.4-mile (3.8km) ROKA Swim Course in the Mediterranean waters of Baie des Anges.
Athletes then embarked on the scenic and challenging 112-mile (180.2km) FULGAZ Bike Course which followed through the hinterland of Nice. The bike course also featured challenging climbs and technical descents with elevation gains of up to 7,900 ft (2400m).
The four-loop 26.2-mile (42.2km) HOKA Run Course spanned end-to-end of the Promenade des Anglais, passing alongside the beach clubs, the Chaises Bleues (blue chairs), and the Negresco Hotel, all with the Mediterranean Sea as a backdrop.
In addition to the elite athletes, female long-distance triathletes in 11 age groups claimed their respective titles at the 2024 VinFast IRONMAN Women’s World Championship triathlon in Nice. Nearly 1,300 athletes from 65 countries, regions and territories competed in Nice for the first time at an IRONMAN World Championship. Below are the winners in each age group.
