The fourteenth edition of the Mallorca 312 | OK Mobility gran fondo got underway at Playa de Muro, Mallorca, Spain, on April 27, 2024.
As one of Europe’s most popular gran condos, the 2024 edition of the Mallorca 312 had already hit capacity in record time. According to the event organising team, the popular Spanish cycling event sold its 8,000 registration bibs in just 6 minutes. This eclipses the previous record, when the 2023 event was sold out in 10 hours.
Unlike in 2023, when extremely hot conditions were experienced, the peloton woke up to more pleasant temperatures and cloudy skies. Although, later on in the day, strong winds became the enemy of many of the participants of the 167km, 225km and 312km races.
Out of the ex-professional cyclists, Alberto Contador was the first to arrive at Playa de Muro with a time of 10:37:19. He said, “It has been a day filled with everything, we were going at a very good pace but then we had to stop several times due to repairs and we were really enjoying the ride until we reached Artà.
“All the neighbours came out to the street, and it was crazy how they all cheered us on making this party end amazingly.”
Bib number 312, Annemiek van Vleuten, enjoyed a long day of cycling in the company of thousands of cyclists and was accompanied by two Mallorca 312 | OK Mobility experts such as Pedro Horrillo and Joseba Beloki.
Alongside Annemiek van Vleuten, it was Belgian cyclist Sylvia Hermans who made an impression, having set a new record for the 312km race with a time of 9:59:15. The podium was completed by Margraf Yvonne and Cemile Trommer with a time of 10:33:55 and 10:46:04, respectively.
In the men’s 312km race, the fastest was Roman Locher with a time of 8:51:13.
