IRONMAN x DAZN: two-year broadcast deal showcasing the IRONMAN Pro Series

IRONMAN has signed a two-year broadcast partnership with DAZN, the live sports streaming service. As part of the deal, DAZN will showcase all IRONMAN Pro Series races, including the split location women’s and men’s VinFast IRONMAN World Championship and the two-day women’s and men’s VinFast IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship triathlons.

According to a release from IRONMAN… ‘This new partnership will offer both new and long-time fans of IRONMAN the opportunity to experience the exciting events and incredible displays of athletic strength from their living room.’

As part of DAZN and IRONMAN’s shared ambition to reach new and bigger audiences, fans worldwide with the exception of the United States, Canada, and China, will be able to access IRONMAN Pro Series events for free as the content will live within DAZN’s ever-expanding free tier.

Registered free users will also be able to enjoy access to a portfolio of video on demand (VOD) content which will live, throughout the season, on DAZN.

“We are really excited to be able to welcome DAZN as one of our broadcast partners for the IRONMAN Pro Series,” said Julia Polloreno, Vice President, Content Production and Distribution for The IRONMAN Group.

“DAZN is synonymous with showing world-class sports to audiences all over the world, and this matches our ambition to make IRONMAN triathlon as accessible and as seamless as possible to more fans of the sport.”

Managing Director of DAZN Media Services, Warren Palk, said “This global partnership with IRONMAN triathlon marks yet another exciting premium addition to our free content proposition.

“IRONMAN races are competitions rooted in scale and we are pleased to have a significant role in increasing its global reach. We are pleased that fans of these mammoth events will be able to access the best action at no cost on DAZN’s platform.”

The IRONMAN Pro Series is a year-long performance-based world series that sees pro triathletes earn points at 20 select races at 19 locations globally to vie for the title of IRONMAN Pro Series Champion and a share of the US$1.7 million year-end bonus prize pool, which is in addition to each individual event’s prize money – equating to over US$2.5 million.

Points are calculated based on an athlete’s finish time in relation to the event winner, calculated after the completion of each designated series race. Winners at IRONMAN events will earn 5,000 points while winners of IRONMAN 70.3 events will earn 2,500 points. In each scenario, points continue to decrease as the race time increases, until the points reach zero.

With five races already taken place, and the IRONMAN European Championship Hamburg triathlon coming up this weekend, professional triathletes are battling it out to accrue early season points and prize money.

This weekend’s IRONMAN European Championship Hamburg also doubles as the IRONMAN European Championship for professional women. With 5,000 points on offer, and five women in the top 20 of the IRONMAN Pro Series standings due to race, viewers can expect some epic battles on course as the elite women race to improve upon their current positionings.

With 15 more races to watch, the DAZN broadcast will aim to take viewers as close as possible to the action, so fans and fellow athletes can watch newcomers, rising stars and seasoned pros battle it out to become the first ever IRONMAN Pro Series champion.

The live broadcasts will be hosted by a team of the sport’s greats, including IRONMAN World Champions and Hall of Famers Greg Welch and Michellie Jones, as well as 3x IRONMAN World Champion Mirinda Carfrae, IRONMAN champions Dede Griesbauer and Michael Lovato and professional IRONMAN athlete Laura Siddall.

Matt Lieto will also be providing analysis from both on the course and in the studio throughout the 2024 season. Various guest commentators also offer additional perspectives and insights to the live coverage.
