Challenge Family pro prize purse focuses on individual races in 2025

Professional triathletes racing with Challenge Family in its global middle and long distance triathlon series will benefit from an increased prize purse across the board in 2025. This move comes as the international event organiser redistributes its annual World Bonus to individual races.

“There is a lot of pressure on athletes these days to focus on just one path,” said Jort Vlam, Challenge Family CEO.

“While we wholeheartedly support the continued professionalisation of our sport, we also want to give back flexibility to the athletes, providing them with choice and allowing them to maintain their schedule without the risk of changing calendars.

“The World Bonus has served its purpose well, supporting the early careers of some of the biggest names in the sport such as Magnus Ditlev, Sam Long and Fenella Langridge when they were up and coming pros. However, we must move with the times, providing opportunities for all athletes while continuing to focus on providing excellence at our events.”

Becoming ‘tier 1 races’, Challenge Samarkand, Challenge Almere-Amsterdam and DATEV Challenge Roth have all increased their prize purses for 2025.

Challenge Samarkand will offer US$75,000 over the middle distance; while Challenge Almere-Amsterdam features €50,000 and Roth €160,200, both over the long distance. In addition, The Championship will retain its €100,000 prize purse.

The following ‘tier 2’ races will all have an increased prize purse of €25,000 over the middle distance as Challenge Family redistributes its World Bonus funds back into the individual race prize purses for 2025:

  • Challenge Taiwan,
  • Challenge Sir Bani Yas,

  • Challenge Gdańsk,
  • Challenge Kaiserwinkl-Walchsee,
  • Challenge Vieux-Boucau,

The prize purse will pay six deep with the podium spots earning €5,000 for first, €2,900 for second and €1,900 for third. Fourth place will earn €1,200, with fifth on €900 and sixth on €600.
