The IRONMAN Pro Series heads back to Australia for its 10th stop of the 2025 season as the Cairns Airport IRONMAN Cairns triathlon takes place on Sunday, June 15.
Nearly 60 professional triathletes will compete for a share of the US$125,000 prize purse, 5,000 IRONMAN Pro Series points, and qualifying slots for the 2025 IRONMAN World Championship events in Nice and Kona.
In the men’s race, past champions Braden Currie (NZL) and Max Neumann (AUS) return in search of a record fourth victory. They will be challenged by a strong international field, including Arnaud Guilloux (FRA), Matthew Marquardt and Matt Hanson (USA), Jamie Riddle (RSA), Mike Phillips (NZL), and Ben Hamilton (NZL). Top Australians such as Sam Appleton, Nick Thompson, and 2017 winner Josh Amberger will also be on the start line.
Defending women’s champion Hannah Berry (NZL) leads the field, joined by 2024 podium finishers Lotte Wilms (NED) and Kylie Simpson (AUS). Other contenders include Regan Hollioake and Penny Slater (AUS), Katrine Græsbøll Christensen (DEN), Julie Iemmolo (FRA), and Jackie Hering (USA). No woman from outside Oceania has won in Cairns since Jodie Cunnama (GBR) in 2016.
The Cairns Airport IRONMAN Cairns will see athletes take on a two-lap, 3.8km ROKA swim course in the location of Palm Cove, tackle the scenic yet challenging 180km ZOOT bike course along the Captain Cook Highway where rainforest meets the reef, cycling up to Port Douglas from Palm Cove twice before heading back into the CBD to start the four-lap, 42.2km HOKA run course through the heart of Cairns.
The event will feature both IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 racing, with over 2,800 registered age-group participants competing in either the Cairns Airport IRONMAN Cairns or the Cairns Airport IRONMAN 70.3 Cairns triathlons alongside the professionals. Amateur athletes will be looking to earn age-group qualifying slots to the 2025 IRONMAN World Championship events on September 14th (Nice, men) and October 11th (Kona, women), and the 2025 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship race on November 8-9 in Marbella, Spain.
