IRONMAN World Championship in Nice, by the numbers

The IRONMAN World Championship men’s race in Nice, France, is gearing up to host over 2,500 registered professional and age-group athletes from 86 countries and territories.

Taking place on Sunday, September 14, 2025, regional representation at the event sees Europe with 48% of athletes registered, followed by North America (24%), Asia (10%), Oceania (10%), Latin America (7%), and finally Africa and the Middle East (2%).

The most represented nation is the United States with 501 registered athletes, followed by host nation France (284), Germany (228), the United Kingdom (217), and Australia (156).

Other athletes are from countries as far as Armenia, Chile, Dominican Republic, Indonesia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Vietnam.

Other facts about the race field:

  • The average age of all registrants is 49.
  • Four athletes will celebrate their birthdays on race day.
  • 86 countries, regions and territories are represented, with top five being the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Australia
  • 40 qualifying races from around the international calendar enabled athletes to reach the event.
  • Over 1,500 volunteers will be helping across race week and on race day.

The event starts with a 3.8km swim in the Mediterranean Sea, followed by a 180km bike course, with an elevation gain of up to 2,400m, before finishing with a 42.2km run along the Promenade des Anglais.

Live race day coverage of the men’s 2025 IRONMAN World Championship triathlon will be broadcast for free across multiple platforms for global viewers, including  proseries.ironman.com, DAZN, and YouTube, as well as L’Équipe in France, Outside TV in the US and Canada, ZDF in Germany, ESPN (within Disney+) in Latin America and the Caribbean, and iQIYI in China, among others.
