MAAP, the cycling apparel brand from Melbourne, has opened its first North American LaB retail store in Venice Beach, Los Angeles, CA.
The LA LaB embodies the company’s ‘Life Around Bikes’ ethos, which focuses on creating connections within local communities and inspiring creativity and performance. Situated on Abbot Kinney Boulevard, the new MAAP LaB Los Angeles is the brand’s eighth store globally.
The new store features a retail and event space with original exposed brick walls and wood rafters, as well as a coffee bar. The design was delivered by Clare Cousins Architects.
Clare Cousins, Director of Clare Cousins Architects, said “Blending local LA history with an Australian sensibility, the store explores Venice’s unique culture of sport and leisure.
“The textural heritage of the existing building is complemented by the energetically contemporary nature of the LaB kit of parts: steel, coloured textiles, and Hayden Cox’s resin artwork.”
Oliver Cousins, co-founder and co-CEO of MAAP, said “The launch of MAAP LaB Los Angeles represents a defining moment for us as a brand. Venice puts us in the center of a thriving cycling community in LA, and it gives us our first real home in the US.
“The LaB is a hub for connection – welcoming our team, our friends, and the wider community through rides, events and shared experiences. We’re proud to add to the fabric of LA’s cycling and cultural landscape.”
Each LaB store aims to offer more than a retail experience, with a concept that mirrors the local environment to foster interaction and community engagement.
The flagship MAAP LaB opened in Melbourne in 2022, with a number of other stores following in Amsterdam, Berlin, Hong Kong, Seoul, Singapore and Taipei. The LA LaB had a soft launch in early September, with its official opening on September 12, 2025.
