MAAP, the Melbourne-based cycling apparel brand, has launched its new PRO Aero Jersey, featuring the company’s proprietary AARTERO Flyte fabric.
Developed in collaboration with GreenEDGE Cycling’s WorldTour teams, Team Jayco AlUla and Liv AlUla Jayco, the jersey aims to maximise performance by balancing aerodynamic efficiency with thermoregulation.
The new jersey is the result of extensive testing and numerous iterations with the GreenEDGE teams to create what MAAP claims is its fastest, lightest, and coolest jersey to date.
At the heart of the jersey is the AARTERO Flyte fabric – an ultra-thin, proprietary matrix-weaved material constructed from a 20-micron fibre matrix, weighing just 100 g/m2.
MAAP added that it engineered the jersey around three core principles: uncompromised speed, thermoregulation, and comfort. The apparel development aims to directly address the challenge of balancing aerodynamic drag with the heat load generated by high-performance athletes.
The key source of aerodynamic gains lies in the 3D ribbed sleeve channels integrated using precision Jacquard weaving. This structure is designed to smooth turbulent airflow and delay flow separation across the arms and shoulders, which typically slows a rider down.
The brand reports that in testing, the fabric achieved savings of 6–8 watts over 100km, which it states is equivalent to up to 60 seconds gained without additional effort.
The jersey’s performance has been validated in the field, worn by WorldTour winners including Ben O’Connor, Mavi García, Chris Harper, and Luke Plapp.
Luke Plapp, a rider for Team Jayco AlUla, highlighted the jersey’s cooling properties, saying “You can feel how well it manages heat when you’re pushing hard – it keeps you cool without sacrificing any aero gains. It’s been a big step up for us this season. The team at MAAP did a great job of keeping our needs and feedback at the core of the product design.”
The breathable construction uses hydrophobic fibres to enhance cooling and limit heat-related performance losses. Integrated features include raw-cut sleeve hems with internal silicone grippers for stability, an anti-irritation ergonomic neckline, and a bonded three-pocket system.
The product also aligns with MAAP’s commitment to sustainability. The fabric employs a solvent-free elastomer to reduce chemical impact during production and improve recyclability. Produced in Italy and certified under the ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard, the jersey prioritises high performance with reduced impact.
The PRO Aero Jersey is now available for purchase for £210 / €220 from the brand’s website and its international LaB retail outlets.
