On on-track with latest running ambassador, Freweyni Hailu

Swiss sportswear brand On has announced a new partnership with Ethiopian middle-distance runner Freweyni Hailu, who recently won the 1500m and claimed the overall Slam title at the Grand Slam Track meet in Miami.

The 24-year-old is one of the most versatile and consistent performers in global athletics, with championship medals across multiple disciplines. She is the reigning World Indoor Champion over 3000m, following her win in Nanjing, China, earlier this year, and took gold in the 1500m at the 2024 World Indoor Championships in Glasgow.

Hailu also earned silver in the 800m at the 2022 World Indoors in Belgrade, becoming the first Ethiopian athlete to win three medals in three different disciplines at the World Indoor Championships.

Originally from Werie Lehe in Ethiopia’s Tigray region, Hailu began running with a local club before joining the Mesfin Industrial Engineering Club and progressing to the national team in 2018.

Her international track record includes five Diamond League victories, with recent wins in the 1500m in Doha (2024), Stockholm and Xiamen (2023), and Lausanne (2021). She also secured silver in the mile at the 2023 World Road Running Championships in Riga.

Hailu narrowly missed the podium at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games and the 2022 World Outdoor Championships, placing fourth in the 1500m at both events.

“For me, it’s important to partner with a brand that shares my dedication and passion for running, and with On I’ve found that partner,” said Hailu.

“There’s a real energy and focus on helping athletes be their best. I’m excited to train and compete with their support.”

Niklas Bühner, Athlete Manager at On, said “We are incredibly proud to have a double World Indoor Champion like Freweyni join the On Team.

“Her incredible talent, demonstrated by her World Indoor Championship wins and consistent high-level performances, aligns perfectly with On’s commitment to innovation and supporting athletes in reaching their full potential.”
