Puresport targets runners with new Energy Gel product offering

Sports nutrition specialist Puresport has confirmed the launch of a new Energy Gel designed to simplify athlete fuelling. The product, which delivers 30g of carbohydrate per serving, is being introduced with a clear recommendation of ‘one gel every 30 minutes’ to help runners maintain optimal energy levels during endurance events.

The launch follows development in collaboration with Scientific Advisor Dr Sam Impey, a performance nutritionist and co-author of Fuel for the Work Required.

Puresport stated that the gel was developed to counteract the complexity and insufficient carbohydrate content found in many existing products. The company highlighted that most gels provide only 20–22g of carbohydrate, which leaves runners under-fuelled when aiming for recommended hourly intake targets.

The new formula uses a dual carbohydrate blend (glucose and fructose) for sustained energy and is Informed Sport certified.

Testing with ExoAnalytics reportedly confirmed an optimal fuelling rate of around 60g of carbohydrate per hour for most runners – the target that the ‘one gel every 30 minutes’ strategy aims to achieve. A subsequent survey of 500 runners by Puresport reported high compliance for the product on texture, flavour, and low incidence of gut issues.

Dan Temm, Chief Executive Officer of Puresport, noted that the product focuses on simplicity to guide everyday athletes.

“The gels category has become way too complicated. For years, runners have been overloaded with jargon, calculators, and conflicting advice.

“The Puresport Energy Gel does one thing really well – it fuels runners with exactly what they need, when they need it. One gel every 30 minutes. Simple as that.”

Dr Sam Impey added a technical perspective: “For most runners, hitting 60g of carbohydrate per hour is the sweet spot for performance. Puresport’s new gel makes it easy to get fuelling right – it’s grounded in science, gentle on the gut, and built around what the body actually needs to perform.”

The Puresport Energy Gel is available in Orange and Berry flavours. The product is priced at £5 (2 pack), £14 (6 pack), or £24.00 (12 pack) and is available via puresport.co and selected retail partners.
