Red Bull KM gives ‘Wiiings’ to 2025 Giro d’Italia

The 2025 Giro d’Italia is introducing a new racing element – Red Bull KM – which is set to spice up the battle for the Maglia Rosa. Sponsored by Red Bull, this new feature will be present in 19 of the 21 stages of the Italian Grand Tour, offering riders the chance to earn valuable time bonuses throughout the race.

At this year’s Giro d’Italia (May 9, 2025 to June 1, 2025), the Red Bull KM will serve as the only intermediate sprint point contributing to the overall standings, alongside the stage finish.

At each stage, riders who cross the exit gate first, second, and third will earn time bonuses of 6, 4, and 2 seconds respectively. The introduction of these intermediate points aims to intensify the race, especially during the opening stages in Albania, where the standings are likely to be tight.

Event organiser RCS Sports & Events, notes that bonus seconds can have a significant impact on the final outcome, as demonstrated in the 1948 Giro d’Italia, where the winner triumphed by just 11 seconds.

The Red Bull KM will also factor in strategic decisions, with teams likely to focus on breakaways, hoping to accumulate time bonuses as they fight for position in the overall classification.

While the Red Bull KM will feature in every sprint stage, the ultimate showdown will take place in Rome, where the best riders will aim for victory in the grand finale.

The Red Bull KM stages, featuring varying distances and terrain, will add another layer of excitement to the race, pushing athletes to their limits. For fans, it’s another reason to follow the Giro from start to finish.
