Shift Cycling Culture opens up 2025 Climate Action Pulse Check

Climate advocacy group Shift Cycling Culture has launched the second annual edition of its Climate Action Pulse Check, an international survey to assess how the cycling industry is progressing on climate commitments and sustainability strategies.

The survey, open from June 12 to July 11, 2025, invites stakeholders across the cycling sector – from global brands to individual cyclists – to take part and share insights. Available in both English and Mandarin, the survey aims to reach a broad audience, including stronger engagement from Asia.

Sandra Brandt, Executive Director of Shift Cycling Culture, stated that the survey offers companies a chance to benchmark progress and identify areas for collective action. “It’s also a powerful way for cyclists to share with the industry what matters most to them,” said Brandt.

2024 Pulse Check highlights
Last year’s survey gathered responses from 84 industry professionals in 16 countries and 240 cycling consumers in 19 countries. Key findings included:

  • 80% of companies said they were taking a strategic approach to climate action
  • 35% reported measurable progress
  • 87% identified broader business benefits such as product innovation and employee motivation
  • 77% of cyclists said they had switched brands due to sustainability concerns
  • Cyclists prioritised durability and repairability from products
  • Key challenges included limited resources, regulatory gaps and a lack of internal support within organisations

The 2025 edition will again share anonymous findings in Q3 2025, along with industry case studies. Companies that participate will receive an individual benchmark report.

Shift Cycling Culture is calling on brands, manufacturers, startups, retailers, race organisers and cyclists – regardless of their current stage in climate action – to contribute their input.
