Strava has launched a redesigned app for Apple Watch. The update includes a new performance-focused interface and introduces Live Segments to the device.
According to Strava’s 2024 Year in Sport report, the share of athletes using an Apple Watch for uploads increased by nearly 20% year-on-year. The new app design is intended to provide a more intuitive experience.
Strava’s redesigned Apple Watch app features:
- A performance-focused design to help athletes get and stay moving
- The ability to view pace, distance, time, and heart rate at a glance
- Automatic syncing of activities to Strava
Live Segments, which allow users to compete against themselves or the Strava community on sections of a road or trail, are now available on Apple Watch. The feature provides real-time updates as athletes approach and enter a segment.
As an athlete approaches a segment, a banner appears on the watch face with the segment name. While in the segment, a circle updates in real time to show progress against a personal record. At the end of the segment, results are displayed instantly.
Strava subscribers can access additional features, including live performance tracking, progress updates, and instant results.
Matt Salazar, Chief Product Officer, Strava, said “Apple Watch has become an increasingly popular wearable for athletes on Strava.
“This investment in Apple Watch is more than just tracking a workout – it’s about delivering the real-time, game-like features athletes love to motivate them in the moment.”
The update follows enhancements to the integration between Apple Fitness+ and Strava earlier this year. The redesigned app is available now for international users and can be downloaded from the App Store.
